Fabric washing and protection
The correct washing and protection of fabrics involves the application of complex processes, determined by multiple factors that must be accurately assessed.

Fabric washing and protection: suitable products and processes.

Taking care of fabrics not only ensures that washed garments have a clean and impeccable appearance, but it also extends their useful life and preserves their quality. At a professional level, whether in hotels, clinics, industrial laundries or professional laundry services, washing and protecting textiles requires specialised processes and the use of products designed for each specific need.

In this context, professional washing stands out for its combination of standardised processes and specialised products. Detergents are formulated to clean thoroughly without damaging fibres, even on delicate fabrics such as fine cotton or synthetic blends. Added to this are bleaches and disinfectants, which remove stubborn stains and microorganisms, and fabric softeners, which not only add freshness but also reduce friction between fibres, making ironing easier and preventing premature wear.

Professional washing is important.

In professional textile care, different products with specific functions are used. Professional detergents clean thoroughly and remove dirt without damaging delicate fibres. Bleaches and disinfectants, which can be chlorinated or oxygenated, help remove stains and microorganisms depending on the type of garment.

Industrial fabric softeners provide freshness and softness and make ironing easier, as well as preventing static electricity. Fabric protectors coat the fibres to protect them from stains, liquids and wear and tear. Finally, neutralisers remove any chemical residues that may remain after washing, preventing skin irritation and fabric deterioration.

  • Guaranteed hygiene: elimination of bacteria, viruses and fungi.
  • Colour and texture preservation: prevents premature wear.
  • Efficiency and sustainability: reduced water and energy consumption.

Appropriate and efficient processes.

This process begins with rigorous sorting of garments according to colour, fabric type and soiling level. This allows for setting variables such as temperature, time, and product dosage. In critical sectors such as hospitals, additional disinfection treatments are included to ensure maximum safety. After washing, professional drying and ironing help to maintain the original shape of the garments, while final stain-resistant treatments further extend their useful life.

  • Garments classification: they are separated by colour, type of fabric and level of soiling.
  • Controlled washing: temperature, time and product dosage are adjusted according to the load.
  • Disinfection: in sectors that require it (such as hospitals or restaurants), specific products are applied to eliminate microorganisms.
  • Conditioning: fabric softeners or protective treatments are used to preserve texture and facilitate ironing.
  • Professional drying and ironing: techniques that maintain shape and reduce fibre deterioration.
  • Final protection: stain removers or starches are applied to extend the life of the fabrics and improve ironing.

Key points.

  • Water temperature: It directly affects washing efficiency. High temperatures are better at removing bacteria and grease, but can damage delicate fibres. Low temperatures, on the other hand, protect colours and sensitive fabrics.

  • Water type: Hard water (with a high mineral content) can affect the performance of detergents and leave residues on clothing. Fabric softeners and specific products can be used to reduce the mineral load.

  • Washing cycles: each fabric requires a different cycle. The most intense cycles are for very dirty or resistant clothing; delicate cycles use less movement and time to avoid damage.

  • Type of garment and fabric: cotton, polyester, wool, silk or blends require specific conditions. Improper handling can damage, shrink, discolour or deform the washed garment.
  • Machine load: Overloading reduces washing efficiency and increases wear and tear on clothing. An adequate load allows water and products to circulate properly.

  • Products used: detergents, bleaches, disinfectants, fabric softeners, and protectors must be selected according to the type of fabric and objectives.

Professional recommendations.

  • Always use certified and biodegradable products.
  • Train staff in the safe handling of chemicals.
  • Put in textile quality control systems.
  • Maintain machinery to ensure efficiency.

Specific cases: stains on towels caused by cosmetics.

Stains on towels and bed linen caused by hygiene and personal care products containing polyquaternium-7 are a common problem in most laundries in hotels, gyms, beauty salons and residential homes. This problem leads to an overinvestment of resources due to rejection, a considerable increase in laundry costs and even the replacement of stained garments, as polyquat stains, once produced, are virtually impossible to remove.

Additive for the prevention of stains generated by polyquaternium-7

AD SHIELD is a liquid neutralising additive that is added to the pre-wash cycle and acts as an ion exchanger on the polyquaternium molecule. The process breaks the ionic bond that binds dirt and the substance together through electrostatic attraction. In this way, the product prevents negatively charged particles from attaching themselves to polyquat residues during the washing cycle.

As a result, fabrics prewashed with AD SHIELD remain protected against staining, greying and colour transfer.
